Tri-Club Christmas Carol Evening December 12th 2017

This evening of Christmas music and Carols was organised by the 3 local Rotary clubs. An annual event held at Christchurch, Deneside, Great Yarmouth.

The attendance was down this year probably because there were no children from any of the local schools but nevertheless all  were welcomed by the Rev Katy Dunn. This year the compere for the evening was Rotarian Philip Hunt President  of the Great Yarmouth Haven Rotary club. He introduced the Mayor Councillor Kerry Robinson Payne and her daughter, DG  of Rotary District 1080 Robert Lovick , Presidents of The Yarmouth RC and RC of Gorleston and welcomed all who were attending.

The first item involved the congregation in singing Xmas carol " Hark the Herald Angels Sing ", followed by the first of the solo performers, Isabella Transfield who played the violin beautifully accompanied by Rachel Salton on the piano.

Next to perform was The St Cecilia Ensemble from Gorleston, directed by Matthew Hardy, singing in lovely harmony, a variety of Christmas songs.

The congregation then sang " It Came Upon the Midnight Clear " to be followed by a reading by Margaret Mortimer, President of Inner Wheel,, followed by a congregational rendering of " Once in Royal Davids City " and then 4 beautiful songs of Xmas by The St Cecilia Ensemble.

Isabella again performed two pieces of music on her violin ,showing her considerable skill with this piece of musical instrument. " The Holly and the Ivy" was sung together next followed by an address and blessing by Rev. Katy Dunn. The evening finished with everybody singing " O Come All Ye Faithful ".

The 3 clubs were thanked for their arranging such a good evening's entertainment with the usual expertise of Rotarian John Roper on the organ ,and with a door collection, this would be split between " Parkside Nursing Home, Christchurch Deneside, and Open Christmas Great Yarmouth.  The collection raised 347.  Rotarian George Ermini was thanked for supplying the mince pies and Rotarian Ian McCreadie for all the printing of the hymn sheets and order of service.
