Great Yarmouth Haven Rotary Club's Duck Races 2019. April 21st.
Following the upheaval at The Waterways due to the massive restoration project, there were no races in 2018. The Borough Council were keen for us to get publicity for a "soft" opening of the southern end and this would be best on Easter Sunday April 21st. when they would also have an Easter Egg Hunt.
For once the weather at the Bank Holiday was fantastic and was a joy to be setting up everything in perfect conditions.
The Mayor Mary Coleman accompanied by her husband Barry, were on hand to judge the best decorated giant duck from the 140 entrants. This was from Sandy at The Beach Hut and Tearoom Cafe on the sea front. From the photos below , can be seen the wonderful array of competion and decoration and, the Rotary Club thank the sponsors for all their support.
The first race was at 2.00pm, followed by 2 heats of the giant ducks, then the public "yellow" race with the final of the giant ducks.
A vast crowd was present to see the races and help by purchasing £1 duck numbers for the 2 public races.... a record for the day in sales !
With the help of many members , the event ws over in good time and everything finished by 4.15pm. Thanks to all.
