New Seafarers Centre Opening. April 15th 2015.

The Club had made a generous donation to the cost of refurbishing a new Seafarers Centre on South Quay after Port Chaplain Rev.Peter Paine had come to give a talk on the plight of seafarers to Great Yarmouth and the inadequacy of facilities for sailors. For Peter it was the culmination of almost a decade's hard work and determination.

On a lovely sunny morning guests attended the official opening ceremony. Rev. Peter welcomed all and gave a history of the Mission and the advantages the new centre would have locally. Steve Roberts , Chairman of the Committee also gave a history of the project, followed by Tony Wright who headed the fund raising.  Prayers and dedication was lead by the Rt. Revd. Dr. Alan Winton, Bishop of Thetford. Mayor Marlene was invited to say a few words on behalf of the Borough and proceeded to cut the ribbon of the opening of the building after dedication and prayers by the Bishop. The Seafarers Remembrance Book was also dedicated.

A nice buffet was enjoyed by all after entry to the new building. Commemorative mugs made by Ernie Childs Yarmouth Pottery were on sale as a unique collectors piece.
