Report of Vocational and Youth Service May 17th 2012

1.      Ambitions Restaurant, 2012.  The Gourmet evening at Ambitions Restaurant took place on 16th May 2012.  In total 39 members and guests attended (one person had to drop out at the last minute).  The evening was very successful. The food as good.  The fellowship was good.  The staff and students at the college looked after us really well and at the same time, appreciated the opportunity for the students to practice their new skills.  We sold tickets for the event at £25.  The college charged us £19 per head.  We had a successful raffle and the total raised on the night was £419.00.

2.      Kids Out 2012

Chased the District Kids Our coordinator at the beginning of March.  They had not got a final decision on the venue so I was asked to wait until they did.  He finally got in touch at the end of April (literally 30th April).  Letters were sent off to the schools on 30th April followed by e-mails on 1st May.  At the time of writing five of the nine schools have responded.  One of them (the biggest last year) has declined, their main reason is the difficulty of organising staff and students at what is relatively short notice.  Only 33 children are registered at the time of writing and there are only 5 days before the application for the grant has to be submitted.  I will feed back to District that the beginning of May is too late for schools to be notified about an event in the middle of June.

3.      Waveny Sailability.  Nothing new to report.  This is in the hands of Malcolm Loveland.

4.       Bletchley Park Visit.  No change here.  George Ermine volunteered to coordinate this visit; unfortunately, he has since been overwhelmed at work.  Peter Gethin will work with him to see if we can arrange something later in the spring.

5.       RYLA

Thanks to the efforts of the President, a candidate has been identified.  He is a 17 year old engineering apprentice.  He met the Committee and the Committee have unanimously agreed that he should be put forward to the club for approval.  He will attend the club meeting on 21st May 2012.  If the club endorse the Committee’s recommendation, he will be out forward for the RYLA course in September 2012.

Service report 19th March 2007

Mark Lee, Assistant Crucial Crew Co-ordinator from the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, has written to thank all Rotary Club Members who supported the Crucial Safety Event from 26th February to 2nd March.

The event went extremely well during the week, which was very much due to the huge support received from Rotary. It is hoped to make this an annual event in Great Yarmouth.

The annual Haven Club Dinner in Ambitions Restaurant at the Great Yarmouth College is planned for Wednesday 2nd May.

Awaiting information on the climbing wall project at Flegg High school.

Monday December 5th 2005

The Great Yarmouth Haven Rotary Club Made a donation of a new Laptop computer and Printer to Trustees of the David Curtis Technology Trust at the Clubs meeting on Monday.
